WARM-UP AND FREEWRITE

I. DEFINITITIONS:

1. What is close reading? Define in your own terms.
2. Define the term pastoral in your own words; then go the OED to get a formal definition of the term and trace its etymology. Compare. Do the same for mistress and nymph.

II. FREEWRITE: Take a couple of minutes to put down what comes to your mind when you think of the following concepts. Do not try to define or describe in full sentences, rather go for a string of associations, a list of words and phrases:
